A host of fierce eco-dragons bear witness to the environmental crisis and strive to protect their individual bioregions. Their heroic character variously draws from and opposes traditional portrayals of the dragon in Asian and Western religious art. While the symbolism of the dragon varies — whether vilified object of fascination or awe-inspiring force to be revered — both traditions link it to nature as a beast of fire, air, earth and water. This project reimagines that link, invoking the dragon as a champion of the Earth and a companion, even protector, of children and communities engaged in environmental stewardship.
